A United Nations panel of human rights activists asked the United States government to give reparations to the African-American community, who were the descendants of black slaves in America.

The reparations would be intended to repair some of the damage done to the African-American community, through various forms of oppression, which includes :

1. Slavery.
2. Black codes.
3. Jim crow.
4. Sundown Towns.
5. Lynchings .
6. Domestic white terrorism (KKK).
7. Mass incarceration and police brutality , which disproportionately affect the African-American community, at a much higher rate than the rest of the population.
8. The 13th amendment. (Which permitted prison inmates to be used as slave labor.
9. Miseducation by a broken school system.

Mireille Fanon Mendes-France, the chairwoman of the UN Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent committee, compared the police killings of unarmed black men today in the United States to racist lynchings that occurred in the South, during the height of segregation.

Mendes-France did not believe that individual checks should be given to the descendants of American slavery, but rather she recommended money be spent for the “full implementation of special programs based on education, socioeconomic, and environmental rights.”

There is a precedence for the United States giving reparations to American citizens, the first case is when the United States government gave reparations to Japanese Americans, for their harsh treatment during World War 2 and in 2015 the Obama administration earmarked $12 million dollars in reparations to be given to holocaust survivors.

  1. The situation is exactly the same in Australia towards Australia’s indigenous people. Their genocide continues (they were hunted, poisoned, shot and enslaved by the white invaders), but now in a far more calculated way – via parliament and the bureaucracy. The whites are only thinking of the best interests of Australia’s indigenous…

    • It seems like it’s the same old story all around the world, that being said I still have faith in humanity that we can evolve into a better people, be more Christ like and less first testament haha! I never thought there would be a black man in the White House, that was the leader of the free world. Yet a lot of the racist Trump supporters and the growing racism in America proves that racism is a infection you always have to keep an eye on and when it comes back like herpes, you can’t be afraid to give it some truth medicine .

      • I think that at the bottom of racism is the fear of and hostility towards difference. Think of the fat kid at school and the bullying he got, whatever his skin colour. My view is that with the deepening economic crisis (the GFC never went away but all the money to feed it has now gone) the capitalist class are ramping up the exploitation of that fear of difference (divide and rule). Some of the Republicans make out that they are horrified by Trump and are doing their best to stop him but he, just as much as the emergence of ‘socialist’ Sanders, is the face of that crisis. Very powerful interests are behind Trump just as some of the biggest industrialists and Henry Ford funded Hitler. I’m white and middle class but I hold different views to the great majority of Australians and I also am experiencing a growing intolerance here of me as a person as well. Best wishes

  2. If the U.N wants to pay reparations then let them. I am sure that they expect this to be paid by the U.S.
This is just another example of the global government seeking to divide and conquer.

  3. Were the Holocaust victims paid $12 million in cash or programs? Many descendants of African slaves still suffer financially as a direct result of racism…I don’t think special programs are going to change that, but the monetary award may relief some debt for many and offer just a little bit of a brighter future! Why is it when it comes to awarding African Americans money, every excuse in the world can be given. Is this not another form of racism? We all know that $$$ is POWER! “Let’s repay them for the damage we’ve caused, but not to the tune of emPowering them!”
