TRUMP’S ADMINISTRATION CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM BILL IS GOING INTO AFFECT, AND OVER 3000 INMATES GET RELEASED EARLY FOR GOOD BEHAVIOR

By: Leon Kwasi Kuntuo-Asare

At the end of last week the Justice Department revealed it intends to release 3,100 inmates from federal prisons nationwide. Most of the people are being released for good behavior and were non-violent drug offenders, but some of the people being released also served time for weapons charges, robbery, sex offenses, and national security-related crimes.

This move is part of Trump’s administration implementation of the “First Step Act”, which is part of a criminal justice reform bill, that President Donald Trump signed into law in December of 2018.

According to The Boston Globe:

The First Step Act is one of the signature pieces of legislation passed during the Trump administration with bipartisan support. It shortens sentences for some inmates β€” partly through a change in the credit they are given for good behavior β€” and increases job training and other programs. It also requires the new risk assessment system, which officials said Friday will allow inmates to complete in-prison programs and, for some, receive β€˜β€˜earned time’’ credits to get out earlier.

Reportedly, the Trump administration will redirect $75 million in fiscal spending for 2019 to help fund the First Step Act and its programs.

CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVISTS & ATTORNEYS FILE LAWSUIT IN NORTH CAROLINA, FOR DISENFRANCHISING BLACK RESIDENTS

By: Leon Kwasi Kuntuo-Asare

Two law firms and a civil rights committee filed a lawsuit monday. The suit claims black residents have had their voting rights violated, in North Carolina.

According to NewsOne: Attorneys from the Washington-based Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and two private law firms filed the suit…The suit alleges that the black residents who account for about a third of the population in Jones County, N.C., are prevented from electing candidates who represent their needs because the county elects commissioners at large rather than by district. The complaint alleges the at-large system prevents black residents from electing black candidates from their communities, and says the at-large system dilutes black voting power.

A black person reportedly has not served on the Jones County board since 1998 and white commissioners have constantly made decisions that benefit whites and disenfranchises blacks.

NAACP MEMBERS ARRESTED DURING SESSIONS SIT-IN

By: Leon Kwasi Kuntuo-Asare

According to the NAACP, via Twitter, on tuesday several civil rights activists, including NAACP President Cornell William Brooks were arrested on tuesday.

Brooks was one of as many as 20 activists from the civil rights organization, who began staging a sit-in early tuesday at the Mobile, Alabama office of Senator Jeff Sessions, Trump’s controversial and very conservative nominee for attorney general.

Brooks said the group was ready to be arrested if sessions did not withdraw his name from the selection process for the position of the country’s top prosecutor.

A BLACK MAN VISITS DETROIT TO EDUCATE VOTERS ON THE HISTORY OF BERNIE SANDERS AND HILLARY CLINTON!

image

BY: LEON KWASI KUNTUO-ASARE

A black man from Dallas, Texas, who represents the Black Men for Bernie organization, ventured up to Detroit, Michigan to speak with voters, who were predominantly African-American, economically disenfranchised and democrats.

Most of the people he spoke to were planning on voting for Hillary Clinton, even though they knew almost nothing about her politics or that the Clintons past policies went against the interests of the African-American community.

Like her “Super Predator theory ” speech she used to advocate for harsher laws on crime that disproportionately effected black people.

image

Locking blacks up in for profit prisons for mostly nonviolent drug offenses, that most white people would get a slap on the wrist for or be given court ordered rehab.

Neither did they know about the
Clintons welfare reform policy, their mass incarceration bills or the Trade deal Bill Clinton did with China or his NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) bill, that took away many of the manufacturing jobs in Detroit and brought them to China and Mexico.

image

image

Transforming Detroit from one of the most successful predominantly African-American cities, to one of the poorest in the nation.

image

He educated them on Bernie Sanders’ history of risking his life and going to jail to fight for civil rights alongside many civil rights freedom fighters, including Martin Luther King Jr.

image

And his current fight for social justice, which includes police brutality and systematic racism.

image

image

He informed them on Bernie Sanders battles with Washington’s political elites to get tax funded healthcare and college education for all tax paying Americans, two things most poor and economically disenfranchised blacks can’t afford.
To no one’s surprised, most people changed their vote from Hillary Clinton to Bernie Sanders.

THE SMACK OF THE SAN FRANCISCO ELLIS ACT: (POEM/ESSAY)

BY:LEON KWASI KUNTUO-ASARE

The fact is the San Francisco Ellis act is a smack in the face and wallet of residents

who love this city and have through good and bad times remained solid

Anyone who bought into the slogan and theme of the San Francisco dream

Corporate thieves and political greed have turned the San Francisco dream into the San Francisco nightmare

Full of evictions and despair for lifelong residents forced to beg like peasants!

The current tech boom in San Francisco is bringing back both the economic prosperity and social-economic devastation of the dot.com boom of the late 1990’s, as many landlords are now forcing out many longtime residents of the city by the bay.

In areas of the city like the mission district ( a predominantly Hispanic and immigrant area) and the Bayview-Hunters point district ( a area with a largest African-American population in the city ) , two regions of San Francisco with a rich ethnic history and unfortunately an economically disenfranchised past. Many low income families are being forced out of the city. According to a Newsweek article by journalist Joe Kloc, from April 15, 2014, Joe writes: “In many cities, people are pushed farther from the city center and must grapple with longer commutes, higher crime rates and a drop in services. But in San Francisco, where Silicon Valley’s tech boom has driven up evictions by 115 percent.” Leaving the newly vacant apartments available to be rented by highly paid tech company employees, who can afford the over priced rent that obviously many long time residents can’t afford, unless they take the risk and use services like Airbnb, which allows tenants to rent out parts of their apartment to complete strangers, which can help them pay their rent.

What ever politicians in San Francisco needs to keep in mind, is that every boom or bubble will burst, so eventually that same thing is going to happen to the tech boom that happened to the dot.com, sooner or later the gold rush always ends. The city by the bay may want to think twice before allowing its longtime loyal residents to be forcefully sent off from the city like inmates to Alcatraz, because they committed the crime of being economically disenfranchised!image
