JAMAICA AND OTHER CARRIBBEAN NATIONS CALL FOR REPARATIONS FROM THEIR FROM THEIR FORMER IMPERIALIST ENSLAVERS! ( ARTICLE )

image

BY: LEON KWASI KUNTUO-ASARE

Today, Jamaicans are unified in their call for reparations for slavery, the same reparations that were denied to their ancestors but were given to the over forty-six thousand white slave owners, who owned, exploited, raped and brutalized their ancestors.

But Jamaica is not the only Caribbean nation to demand reparations from their former Imperialist enslavers.
Earlier this year in July, 14 Caribbean nations filed lawsuits against their from exploiters of Great Britain, France and the Netherlands, at the international court of justice in the Hague.

.

The Prime minister of the United Kingdom, David Cameron is set to visit Jamaica, to talk about trade relations and the building of a prison, which will be used to house Jamaicans convicted of crimes, while in the United Kingdom.

Cameron claims he has no plans to discuss reparations for slavery, which is disgusting and hypocritical considering the fact his own family owned slaves on Jamaica, therefore not only did his family receive all the economic benefits that came with slavery, but they also received reparations as slave owners when Great Britain ended slavery in Jamaica.

Today, the Dominican Republic still continues its racist and Xenophobic purging of migrant Haitians, Dominicans of Haitian descent and dark skin Dominicans, to poor to afford the proper documentation, to prove they are of Dominican ancestry.

According to relief officials, approximately fifty to a hundred people , the Dominican Republic claims to be of Haitian ancestry , are forcefully deported from the Small island nation, every day even though according to amnesty international, twenty-seven percent of the people deported, claim they were born and raised in the Dominican Republic.

AMERICAN SLAVERY 2.0 (ARTICLE )

image

BY: LEON KWASI KUNTUO-ASARE

I like so many other children in America was falsely taught in school, that the civil war (April,12, 1861to may 9, 1865) was fought to give black people freedom and that black people received that freedom from slavery after the civil war ended in 1865, when the abolitionist north won, the war.

image

Years later I would sadly learn that systematic slavery never ended after civil war, in fact the 13th amendment Was passed by the United States senate to keep a form of systematic slavery alive and well in America. On April 8, 1864, before the civil war even ended. The thirteenth Amendment states: Section #1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for a crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within, the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Even today slavery still exist through America, legally in maximum security prisons, like the Angola prison in Louisiana or the parchman farm prison in Mississippi, just to name a couple. There prisoners are forced to work or be punished by solitary confinement, which often times makes inmates go insane, if in there for long periods of time.

Inmates are often times forced to work for free, but if they are giving any compensation, it can be as meager as two cents an hour, or 16 cents a day, which only adds up to approximately $3.20 a month, depending on the length of the month.

Currently America leads the industrialized world, with approximately 2.2 million prison inmates, which means their are more people in chains, forced to work than before the civil war and considering the racially bias justice system and racial profiling, a large percent of the inmates are black, even though blacks are make up as little as 12 percent of the United States population.

Today’s prison-slaves, often times have to do mining work, Agriculture, build military equipment and make garments for big business corporations, they same way their ancestors were forced to work the cotton fields and plantations of the antebellum slavery days.

THE DOUBLE STANDARD OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE COVERAGE IN THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA! (ARTICLE )

image

BY: LEON KWASI KUNTUO-ASARE

“Keep your damn hands to yourself” is a term that should viewed as law of the land in America, no matter your race, gender or sexual orientation, no one should be allowed to feel they can batter another person because of an argument or disagreement and not have to deal with repercussions. That being said what people should do is often the opposite of what people actually do.

Without a doubt domestic violence is a major issue in the United States, straight, bi, gay, Transgender, male, female, all these subgroups of the American population, have people in their group who have committed assault and battery on their loved ones, which proves that domestic violence is not a male vs. female issue, rather it’s a humanity issue, that needs to be addressed in the proper and educated manner.

Instead the major media corporations continue to omit the fact that men make up about 40% of domestic violence victims, in an article titled: “More than 40% of domestic violence victims are male, report reveals” by the Guardian.com and published on September 4, 2010 stated : “Data from home office statistical bulletins and the British crime survey show that men made up about 40% of domestic violence victims each year between 2004-5 and 2008-9”.

SNL SPOOF ON SOLANGE ATTACK OF JAY Z.

Instead when a woman hits a man it’s a joke on Saturday night live like when Solange Knowles , the sister of R&B/pop diva Beyonce and sister-in-law to rap legend and music mogul Jay Z, decided to punch and kick her brother-in-law in a tight elevator, while she was wearing dangerously sharp high heels.

Media companies like DISNEY/ABC/ESPN for the most part simply ignored the fact that women’s WorldCup Soccer player Hope Solo has been involved in at least two cases of domestic violence in which she was the aggressor.

The media instead downplays or ignores domestic violence committed by women to focus months on the issue of violence committed by men, especially black men, even if it was in self-defense against a crazed and violent woman, e.g. the Ray rice incident when he punched his then girlfriend/now wife in the face after she pimped slap him or the FSU quarterback De’andre Johnson, who punched a woman in a bar after she reportedly yelled racial slurs at him and is on video seen punching him .

image

Both male Football players so far have had their careers cut short, while Solange is more famous now after she attacked Jay Z and Hope Solo just won a WorldCup and is expected to be in the FIFA 2016 video game.

So to my fellow Americans, I think we can all agree that domestic violence is horrific, so lets just have one standard that domestic violence is wrong and the aggressor should be punished, no matter their sex, race or sexual orientation.
